Bright Ideas for Women in need Association (BIWA) is a women’s led organization bringing together women activists, women’s groups, women HRDs, marginalized women, adolescent girls, street girls and teenage mothers in rural areas of Uganda founded in 2017 working to promote and protect the rights of women, addressing gender inequalities, promoting peace and justice, climate justice and building an inclusive society where marginalized women and girls are empowered to foster sustainable development. BIWA’s head offices are located in Nyakasharara town in Kiruhura town council, Nyabushozi county, Kiruhura district on Kaguta road with contact office in Mbarara city on Bananuka drive and its mandate is to build a society where women and girls are empowered to foster sustainable development.

We create opportunities to enhance the socio- economic conditions and well-being of women, and provide volunteer programs in partnership with local organizations, women’s groups and women’s organizations to advocate for women’s rights and implement sustainable initiatives through our training and capacity building programs. The organization work with all stake holders to transform girls and women who are vulnerable and stigmatized by the society through multi sectorial, gender and culture sensitive approaches to adopt economically and socially improved lifestyles.

A society where women and girls are empowered to foster sustainable development.

Mission Statement

Empowering women and girls to promote a world that is just, rights-based, peaceful, inclusive to
and ensure full and effective participation of women in promoting sustainable development.

Main Goals and Objectives of the Organization

  • To improve the quality of life for stigmatized and marginalized women, their children, families and communities through formal education, capacity building, counseling, nutritional support, non-formal training, legal representation and human rights upholding.
  • To capacitate women and girls to raise their awareness on their rights, equip them with skills for socio-economic empowerment to accelerate sustainable development
  • To address the challenges that women and girls face in the daily operations including the threat of violence, harassment and discrimination in decision making processes
  • Enhancing women’s self-esteem to participate in leadership roles through social skill development.
  • To increase women’s access to productive resources and
    economic opportunities without discrimination
  • Providing access to justice for all women and promoting peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development.
  • To promote and foster gender equality as well as set
    minimum standards for the promotion and protection of the rights of women and girls.
  • Providing protection and a safe house for homeless vulnerable girls and women
  • Setting up structures and strategies of eliminating all forms of violence against women and girls through advocacy, sensitization and capacity building.
  • Raising awareness and building capacity of women to increase their knowledge base on gender and climate to improve climate policies as well as identify effective mitigation and adaptation options.
  • Empowering women to actively contribute to mitigation and adaptation, enhance cooperation on gender and climate issues at all level and advocate for gender and climate justice as overarching, guiding principles.
  • Developing more effective climate protection and adaptation through empowering women to make active, maximum contributions to mitigation and adaptation measures, while denouncing the disproportionally negative impacts imposed on women by false solutions.
